Sovereign Prince in charge again in Listed Jumeirah Classic

Improving three-year-old Sovereign Prince continued his perfect start to 2022 at Meydan, UAE, with a comfortable victory in the Listed Jumeirah Classic on week four of the Dubai World Cup Carnival, Friday, 4 February.
The Charlie Appleby-trained son of Dubawi, successful in the trial for the mile turf contest on week one of the Carnival, soon settled in second of the six runners as Hotline Bling raced keenly in front.
Sovereign Prince took up the running over a furlong and a half out and responded gamely for James Doyle in the closing stages, seeing off Mr Professor by a length and a quarter. New Science kept on from the rear to take third, a further length and three-quarters in arrears.
James Doyle said: “Sovereign Prince won the trial for this race – it was a bit of a bunch finish that day but he hadn’t run for some time and definitely came forward for the run. If you took New Science out of the race, it was a similar field tonight, and we felt that Sovereign Prince would be a better horse compared to the trial.
“It was very straightforward. We knew from his last race that Sovereign Prince is a very versatile horse and we could afford to ride him positively if nothing wanted to go on. The leader went a nice gallop and gave me a good target. Sovereign Prince pricked his ears when he got to the front but when the second joined me, he really knuckled down. I thought he showed a good quality.”
