Spectroscope ready to produce first-up

The former French-trained galloper Spectroscope made a quick adjustment to Australian conditions in his first local preparation, and can continue in the same form when he resumes in the G3 Show County Quality at Randwick on Saturday.

Spectroscope (James Cummings/Hugh Bowman) won his first two starts for the Sydney-based Godolphin team last Autumn, the most recent of them the G3 Doncaster Prelude at Rosehill.

That victory came on a heavy track at 1600m, but trainer James Cummings doesn’t see the 1200m on Saturday or the likelihood of a dry track going as negatives.

“He has natural speed and he’s trialled very nicely,” Cummings said.

“He’s fit enough to run a big race.”

While Spectroscope appears well-suited for his return, the stable’s consistent stayer Allergic (Tim Clark) has the champion mare Winx to contend with in the G2 Warwick Stakes.

Allergic has had a short break since winning over 2400m at G3 level in May and last Spring was placed in the G1 Metropolitan. Cummings is aiming at similar races this preparation.

“He was very solid and consistent last preparation and had a nice, confidence boosting win before his spell,” he said

“This is a quality race and short of his best distance. At this stage we’re looking at races like the Metropolitan which he was placed in last year.”
