Joe Saumarez Smith, former Chair of the British Horseracing Authority and a great devotee of racing, has died at the age of 53.
On behalf of Godolphin, Hugh Anderson (Managing Director, UK and Dubai) said, “We are very saddened to hear of Joe’s death.
“He was a true servant and advocate of our sport and did a sterling job in the challenging role of Chairman of the BHA.
“I got to know him well and always valued and admired his wisdom and clear ability as a hugely successful businessman with the rigour and logic that brought to his role at the BHA.
“His fortitude and good humour in recent years is an example and inspiration to us all. He will be greatly missed and we send our deepest condolences to his family.”
