Sweynesse ran well to finish second in the Group One Girvan Waugh Randwick Guineas at Royal Randwick, Australia, on Saturday, March 7.

The three-year-old colt broke smartly on the outside of the six runners under James McDonald and raced second last of the six runners.

He was last by half-way and came on the inside turning in to go third.

Sweynesse threw down a strong challenge from a furlong and a half out and ran on but Hallowed Crown was too strong well inside the final furlong and scored by three quarters of a length, with Shooting To Win a close third, the first three clear.

The winner's time was 1m 35.06s on good ground.

Trainer John O'Shea said: "From the widest gate, Sweynesse ended up in an awkward spot and travelled four-wide at the tail of the field.

"Around the 700 metre-mark, James got him to the fence, they cut the corner on the rail which had him back into the race but if the option had presented to get on the back of Hallowed Crown which was the horse we wanted to be following instead of being on the inside rail, we might have turned the tables on him.

"I think it was really good performances by three wonderful colts that occupied the placings."

Sweynesse will probably target two more Group Ones, the Rosehill Guineas and the Doncaster Mile.
