Tarifa gets another G1 placing with Beholder Mile third

Multiple G2-winning filly Tarifa finished third in G1 company for a second time as she found Cavalieri and Richi too strong in the B Wayne Hughes Beholder Mile on Saturday, 8 March.

All six runners in the Santa Anita feature broke on terms, with the Brad Cox-trained Tarifa pressing for the early lead before settling in a close third on the outside of Richi and Cavalieri in a tightly grouped field.

Hoosier Philly snuck up the inside of Tarifa leaving the back, although the Godolphin filly rallied under Mike Smith to regain third at the top of the straight.

Richi and Cavalieri lengthened away from the field entering the final furlong, with Nyquist filly Cavalieri asserting in the closing strides to maintain her perfect record.

Tarifa kept on at the same pace to finish a little under six lengths behind the front two, adding to her third in last season’s G1 Cotillion Stakes.
