Toscanini was collared near the line to come home second in the six-furlong Group Three Gerrardstown House Stud Supporting Breast Cancer Research Renaissance Stakes at the Curragh, Ireland, on Saturday, August 22.

The three-year-old colt, trained by Michael Halford and ridden by Shane Foley, showed good early speed and opened up a clear advantage over his eight rivals after a furlong.

He travelled powerfully and found plenty under pressure inside the final furlong but could not repel the late thrust of Moviesta, who got up near the line to score by three-quarters of a length in 1m 11.64s on good to firm turf.

Michael Halford commented: "It was a terrific run from Toscanini - he fought off all challengers and then just got mugged near the line by Moviesta. He seems to be coming forward with his racing and is getting the hang of sprinting."

"He is entered in the Group Two Flying Five Stakes back at the Curragh next month and, with the pace he showed today, we will probably consider that race providing the ground is suitable."
