Tower Of London strikes in G3 Arlington Cup

Tower Of London made a winning start to his three-year-old campaign as he swooped late to take the G3 Arlington Cup over a mile at Hanshin, Japan, on Saturday, 14 April.

The son of Raven’s Pass was covered up in ninth of the 13 runners early on by Christophe Lemaire but had to briefly wait to deliver his challenge at the top of the straight.

Tower Of London quickened strongly down the centre of the course inside the final furlong to hit the front near the line and score by a cosy half-length over Pax Americana in 1m 33.4s on firm ground.

It was a fourth success in six appearances for the Kazuo Fujisawa-trained colt, who captured the G2 Keio Hai Ni Sai Stakes at Tokyo in November and finished third in the G1 Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes at Hanshin the following month.

Harry Sweeney, President of Godolphin in Japan, said: “Tower Of London won in a pleasing manner. He had to navigate traffic in the early straight but accelerated well to win with a bit in hand and was very relaxed during the race.

“He will now be aimed at the G1 NHK Mile at Tokyo on the first Sunday of May.”
