Two-Year-Olds to debut in Blue Diamond Previews

The unraced two-year-old’s Unwise and Ganzfeld will provide a guide to their immediate futures and to their standing in Godolphin’s Australian two-year-old team when they run in Blue Diamond Previews at Caulfield on Thursday.
Unwise, a daughter of Lonhro, goes into the G3 Blue Diamond Preview for fillies off a barrier trial in Sydney earlier this month and with trainer John O’Shea expecting her to run a “respectable” race.
A similar approach is being taken with Ganzfeld, another from Lonhro’s 2014 crop, who runs in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview for colts and geldings.
“These are a nice pair of horses that we identified as being forward enough to go to races like these,” O’Shea said.
“We don’t like to stretch our young ones too much too early, but I’m happy that these two have shown enough in their trials and at home to give them their chance.”
Both Unwise and Ganzfeld will be ridden by Ben Melham.
The Blue Diamond Previews have proved a good guide to Victoria’s premier juvenile race, the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes, with Darley colt, and now stallion, Sepoy having won both races in 2011.
Among other notable winners to come through the colts’ and geldings’ division in recent years have been Australian Horse of the Year Dissident who made his debut in the Preview in 2103, Reward For Effort who won his Preview and then the Blue Diamond, as did Bel Esprit in 2002 and such good colts and subsequent stallions Canny Lad, Zeditave and Rancher before that.
The fillies Preview was won in 2013 by Miracles Of Life who went on to win the Blue Diamond Stakes with other notable winners including Crystal Lily and Courtza.
O’Shea is also looking forward to the appearance of another pair of youngsters, Savatiano and Malahat, at Rosehill on Saturday.
Savatiano makes her debut in the G3 Widden Stakes with Malahat to have his second start in the G3 Canonbury Stakes.
