Another Godolphin two-year-old talent emerged when the filly Chipanda finished third in the G3 Widden Stakes at Rosehill, Australia, on Saturday, January 30.
The placing was the second from as many starts for the daughter of Sepoy.
But the result might well have been different had Chipanda (John O'Shea/James McDonald) not been forced to race wide without cover.
"It would have been nice to have had a better run, but she showed again that she's a very talented filly," said trainer John O'Shea.
Chipanda raced prominently throughout and loomed up towards the lead with 300m to run, only to fade slightly in the final stages and finish almost three lengths from the winner, Honesty Prevails.
Jockey James McDonald said there was nothing about the run that could be regarded as disappointing.
"She did a lot of work out wide on a very heavy track and still challenged when I asked her. It was a great run," McDonald said.
A second Godolphin runner, the debutante Nonpareil (John O'Shea/Sam Clipperton), also ran well, finishing fourth, just behind her stablemate.
"She was very professional, she ran very well," Clipperton said.
"For a filly having her first start she showed a lot of promise."
