Adayar produced another gallant display at Ascot as he finished third behind emphatic winner Mostahdaf in the G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes on day two of the Royal meeting, Wednesday, 21 June.

The 2021 G1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes victor recovered from a sluggish start to race in third on the inside of My Prospero as Luxembourg and Classic Causeway led the six runners.

Adayar moved up to go second from Classic Causeway approaching the final quarter-mile and kept on under William Buick after Mostahdaf swept by the field a furlong and a half from home. Mostahdaf streaked further clear inside the final furlong to prevail by four lengths, with Adayar missing out on second by half a length following a battle with Luxembourg.

Charlie Appleby said: “The way the race set up wasn’t ideal for Adayar. We were a little bit tardy from the gate and were hoping to either be on the lead or second to Classic Causeway.

“It was always going to be made for a turn of foot and Mostahdaf is good at that, so take nothing away from the winner. I feel Adayar is crying out for the step back up to a mile and a half and we will look towards the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes.”
