Godolphin enjoyed a superb Breeders’ Cup meeting, with Cody’s Wish and Master Of The Seas securing thrilling victories at Santa Anita on Saturday.

Cody’s Wish became only the second horse to win the G1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile twice as he bowed out with a courageous nose verdict over Preakness Stakes victor National Treasure.

Having won 11 of his 16 career starts, including five at G1 level, Cody’s Wish retires to begin his next career as a Darley stallion at Jonabell Farm in Lexington. He looks certain to be a leading contender for Horse of the Year honours at the Eclipse Awards in January.

Master Of The Seas flew home to beat Mawj in a thrilling finish to the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile, with a nose separating the duo at the line. Both horses will remain in training next year and could re-oppose at Meydan in March, with the Pegasus World Cup Turf also an option for Saturday’s winner.

Proxy will join Cody’s Wish in the stallion sheds after he stormed home to snatch third in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic. Successful in the Clark Stakes last year, the five-year-old won or placed in 11 Graded races in total, including close seconds in the Jockey Club Gold Cup and Santa Anita Handicap.

Silver Knott was also narrowly denied at Santa Anita on Saturday, going down by half a length to Seal Team in the G2 Twilight Derby on the Breeders’ Cup undercard. He looks set to target further Group-race assignments in Dubai over the winter.

In Australia, Spacewalk scored the biggest win of his career when collaring Najem Suhail close home in Saturday’s G3 Rising Fast Stakes at Flemington. Zardozi ran an excellent race to finish a short-head second in the G2 Wakeful Stakes on the same card and the Kingman filly could make a quick return to the course in this Thursday’s G1 VRC Oaks.

Pericles and Golden Mile also ran valiant races in defeat at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, filling the places behind Obamburumai in the AUS$10m Golden Eagle.
