Sky Angel stayed on well to finish second behind runaway winner Novemba in the G2 German 1,000 Guineas at Dusseldorf, Germany, on Sunday, 30 May.

The Henri-Alex Pantall-trained filly made a beeline for the inside rail from her wide draw to race in seventh of the 12 runners as Novemba set a strong gallop in the mile Classic.

Sky Angel went fourth just inside the final-quarter mile and continued to make good headway in the straight under Soufiane Saadi, edging out Belcarra for second near the line to go down by seven and a half lengths.

Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin said: “Sky Angel ran a super race. She was probably slightly compromised by her outside draw but, given the distance she finished behind the winner, it’s hard to see the result being much different.

“Sky Angel has finished very strongly and we are delighted to see her run so well again. She has picked up some G2 Black Type and the mission now will be to try and win a Listed or Group race.”
