Star Of Mystery ran an excellent race on her stateside debut with a battling third in the G1 Jaipur Stakes at Saratoga on Saturday, 8 June.

The Charlie Appleby-trained three-year-old had already announced herself as a rising star in the sprint division with a superb Meydan campaign that included victory in the G2 Blue Point Sprint and a three-quarter length second in the G1 Al Quoz Sprint.

Having shown excellent speed from the gates, Star Of Mystery raced in third initially before being shuffled back a couple of spots after the first quarter-mile as Cogburn dominated throughout.

Star Of Mystery had to be brave in the straight, with Coppola and Sosua Summer shutting the door on the Godolphin filly. She rallied strongly inside the final half-furlong under Flavien Prat and forced a photo for the places, missing out on second by a neck.

Stable-mate Mischief Magic closed well from the rear to take fifth, a little over a length behind Star Of Mystery.

Charlie Appleby said: “We are delighted with Star Of Mystery, especially considering it was her first experience in the United States. I liked that she did everything the right way – she jumped, travelled and finished her race strongly. We will have a look at the G2 Troy Stakes back here in August, which could also be an option for Mischief Magic.”
