Avery Island challenges for Nashua Stakes

Two-year-old colt Avery Island steps up to G2 level for the Nashua Stakes over a mile on dirt at Aqueduct, USA, on Sunday, November 5.
The Kiaran McLaughlin-trained son of Street Sense made all for a comprehensive victory in a Belmont Park maiden over an extended mile on September 30, having finished seventh on his debut in a six-furlong contest at Saratoga on August 19.
Joe Bravo, on board for both appearances, has the ride again on Avery Island, who faces five rivals including Aveenu Malcainu and Crea’s Bklyn Law, who have both finished seventh in G1 company.
Kiaran McLaughlin commented: “Avery Island is training well. He is a colt with a big, long stride and loved the step up in distance last time out.
“He ran well on a wet track at Belmont and we hope that he will be fine on a fast track this time.
“Joe Bravo loves him and we are hoping for the best.”
Elsewhere on the same card, four-year-old filly Indulgent (Kiaran McLaughlin/Luis Saez) goes for a third victory at Aqueduct in the non-graded Pumpkin Pie Stakes.
The six-furlong contest was transferred following the cancellation of Belmont Park’s fixture on October 29 due to adverse weather.
