Deloraine third in G3 Gazelle Stakes

Deloraine picked up some more G3 Black Type as she finished third in the Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct, USA, on Saturday, 5 April.

Returning to dirt after filling the same spot on turf in the G3 Florida Oaks, the Eoin Harty-trained three-year-old broke smartly and pressed Vanilla Sundae and Early On for the lead before settling in third on the outside of the duo entering the first turn.

Deloraine continued to race wide for Mike Smith and closed to within a half-length of the front two leaving the back.

The Godolphin homebred briefly joined Early On at the head of the six runners turning in, with Ballerina d’Oro making her own challenge at the top of the lane.

Ballerina d’Oro drifted into the path of Deloraine a furlong and a half out before going clear with Early On entering the final furlong. Deloraine stuck to her task in third, going down by just under six lengths in total.
