Best of Days was collared in the shadow of the post to go down by a head in the G3 Tattersalls Acomb Stakes at York, UK, on Wednesday, August 17.
The Hugo Palmer-trained colt, a six-length debut winner at Sandown Park on July 20, raced behind the leaders in fourth under William Buick for the majority of the seven-furlong contest.
He stayed on well to hit the front a furlong and a half from home but could not resist the late challenge of Syphax, who got up in the final strides to win in 1m 23.46s on good to firm ground.
Godolphin Chief Executive and Racing Manager John Ferguson said: “I thought Best Of Days ran a very good race. He will have learned a lot from the experience and I was very pleased with the way he galloped out through the line.
“We will wait and see how he recovers from this run before deciding on any future plans but he remains an exciting prospect.”
