Bold Act picked up where he left off in 2023 with an impressive return to action in the G2 Dubai City Of Gold Sponsored By emirates.com at Meydan on Saturday, 2 March.
The New Approach four-year-old, making his first start since winning the G3 Sycamore Stakes at Keeneland in October, raced in a clear fifth for much of the 12-furlong turf feature as Trevaunance led the nine runners.
Bold Act travelled strongly into the race at the top of the straight and cruised up to hit the front with a furlong and a half to race before kicking on into a clear advantage under Mickael Barzalona.
Warren Point made late inroads but could only get within two lengths of Bold Act at the line, with the Charlie Appleby-trained duo pulling nearly five lengths clear of Sisfahan in third.
Charlie Appleby said: “The likelihood is that Bold Act won’t go for the Dubai Sheema Classic as we have Rebel’s Romance coming out for that. The Sheema Classic has always been his target, while we will probably look back towards America with Bold Act.”
Mickael Barzalona said: “I had a lovely race. The pace was nice and regular and Bold Act got to the front very easily. He did the minimum once in front, but it was an easy enough win for him.
“When I rode him in France last year, he was unlucky and should have won, but he bounced back quickly in America. He is a horse with potential.”
