Broadsiding roars back as stars of past, present and future shine

Outstanding colt Broadsiding returned to the level of form that saw him crowned Australian Champion Two-Year-Old with an imposing victory in Saturday’s G2 Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.
Returning to Sydney following three winless starts at Melbourne in the spring, the son of Too Darn Hot produced a commanding performance to score by an easy length under Zac Lloyd.
Broadsiding has already notched top-level wins in last season’s Champagne Stakes and J J Atkins, in addition to September’s Golden Rose, and he looks booked for a return to G1 company in next month’s Randwick Guineas.
Beiwacht announced himself as a two-year-old to follow on the same card’s G2 Silver Slipper Stakes, with the Bivouac colt setting himself up for the Golden Slipper with a dominant display.
Two Godolphin runners emerged with credit in defeat in Melbourne on the same day. Tom Kitten missed out by a short-head behind prolific G1 scorer Mr Brightside in the G1 Futurity Stakes, and the duo are on course to re-oppose in the All-Star Mile in two weeks’ time.
Juvenile colt Tentyris was also denied by a short-head in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes on the same Caulfield card. The son of Street Boss will be hoping to secure a first Group-race success in next month’s G2 Todman Stakes at Randwick.
Dubai Future may be entering the twilight of his career but the nine-year-old became Godolphin’s third oldest winner ever as he readily accounted for King Of Conquest in Friday’s G3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy.
The son of Dubawi, a winner at Royal Ascot and Bahrain in his younger days, could yet bid for more big-race glory at Meydan in April’s G2 Dubai Gold Cup.
Racing at Meydan continues this week with Super Saturday, and Godolphin is set to be well-represented in the card’s turf contests, which include the Dubai City Of Gold, Singspiel Stakes, Jumeirah 2,000 Guineas and Jumeirah 1,000 Guineas.
Kentucky Derby hopeful Sovereignty features among a trio of Godolphin runners chasing Graded honours at Gulfstream Park on Saturday.
Kempton Park hosts its own Kentucky Derby trial on Wednesday evening, although the all-weather contest has proved more of a springboard for UK Classic winners, with Notable Speech having won 12 months ago. Two Godolphin contenders this time include Opera Ballo, who made an impressive winning debut over the course and trip in January.
