Bronze for Aomori City in G2 July Stakes

Aomori City backed up the promise of a debut success as he finished third behind the more experienced duo of Whistlejacket and Billboard Star in the G2 July Stakes at Newmarket, UK, on Thursday, 11 July.

A cosy winner at Nottingham for Charlie Appleby in mid-June, Aomori City broke well and soon disputed second alongside Billboard Star and Electrolyte as Whistlejacket led the six-strong field.

Aomori City briefly pressed for the lead as most of the field looked to hold significant chances a furlong and a half out. Whistlejacket reasserted entering the final furlong, with Aomori City rallying for William Buick to go down by two and a half lengths in total.
