Calare back at Deauville for Prix du Calvados

Calare returns to Deauville, France, for the seven-furlong G3 Prix du Calvados on Saturday, August 20.
The two-year-old daughter of Dubawi, who is trained by Charlie Appleby, was headed in the closing stages to go down by a short-neck to Asidious Alexander in the Listed Prix Six Perfections over the same course and distance on July 30.
She was also runner-up at Listed level over seven furlongs in the Star Stakes at Sandown Park on July 21 and made a winning debut with a facile success in a Doncaster maiden in June.
Charlie Appleby reported: “Calare’s last two runs have been very good and she goes returns to Deauville in good order.
“The conditions of the race should suit and I expect her to give a good account of herself.”
Calare, with Mickael Barzalona in the saddle, takes on eight rivals headed by Asidious Alexander, Chantilly Listed winner Baileys Showgirl and Deauville maiden scorer Cavale Doree.
