Cascadian proves he is far from over the hill with G2 victory

Veteran campaigner Cascadian posted the most decisive of his five Group-race wins at Randwick on Saturday, scoring by a dominant three and a quarter lengths in the G2 Hill Stakes.

Having initially raced in France, the son of New Approach has thrived since switching to Australia, scoring in Pattern company for each of the last four seasons including G1 success in both the Doncaster Mile and All Aged Stakes.

Now racing as an eight-year-old in the southern hemisphere, Cascadian’s Hill Stakes victory was remarkably his first over a mile and a quarter and he looks set for a drop back down in trip for the G3 Craven Plate back at Randwick later this month.

Al Satwa also appears to be improving with age in Japan, with the five-year-old picking up a third win from four starts this season in the Listed Port Island Stakes at Chukyo on Sunday.

With Adayar going for the Champion Stakes rather than the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, it proved a quiet week in Europe, with Tribalist and versatile filly Soft Whisper both notching Listed wins.

Cantilena picked up important G3 Black Type when filling the runner-up spot in Germany, while Imperial Emperor, who is out of a half-sister to Ghaiyyath, made an exciting debut at Newmarket.

Victory in the G1 Caulfield Guineas proved a launchpad for Anamoe’s superb three-year-old campaign last season. Leading contender Aft Cabin will be forced to miss Saturday’s race after bleeding, although Godolphin still harbours high hopes of claiming back-to-back renewals with Golden Rose fourth Golden Mile.

Newmarket hosts the Dubai Future Champions Festival on Friday and Saturday. Pinatubo and Native Trail both cemented their Champion two-year-old status with victory in the G1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes and Naval Power will be looking to emulate the duo in Europe’s top juvenile event.

Keeneland’s Fall Meet gets underway this week and Godolphin is set to have runners in both of Saturday’s turf G1 races. Santin will be seeking a third top-level success this year in the Turf Mile, with Alms is hoping to follow up her recent Kentucky Downs win in the First Lady Stakes.
