Cohesion Not To Be Underrated

Among the flurry of recent Godolphin two-year-old winners it might have been possible to underestimate Cohesion who runs in the G3 colts and geldings division of the Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield on Saturday, February 13.

Among the flurry of recent Godolphin two-year-old winners it might have been possible to underestimate Cohesion who runs in the G3 colts and geldings division of the Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield on Saturday, February 13.

But Cohesion (John O'Shea/Ben Melham) showed he not only knows how to win when he scored at Caulfield three weeks ago, he also knows how to fight.

Cohesion won the Listed Blue Diamond Preview on January 26 after setting the speed, being challenged and headed at the 200m and then drawing away to win clearly.

It was a win that impressed his trainer John O'Shea who identified Caulfield as a track that would suit the colt whose only other start had been at his home base in Sydney last October.

"He's a little horse that's well-suited in those 1000m, 1100m races around Caulfield at this time of year, because he's professional and bombproof and gets the job done," O'Shea said.

With the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes only two weeks away, it isn't surprising that Cohesion is facing a stronger field this time.

But a form line through his first start suggests he is capable of making the necessary improvement.

On debut, Cohesion finished fourth behind Capitalist at Randwick last October.

Capitalist has since won the Magic Millions Classic and is regarded as the top colt in training.

"He ran a nice race behind Capitalist at his first start and he's improved since then and again since his last start" O'Shea said.

"He wanted to look around a bit last start, he's not likely to do that again so he's got a few things in his favour."
