Godolphin's list of Australian two-year-old winners had another name added when Cohesion led throughout to win the Listed Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield, Australia on Tuesday, 26th January, 2016.
Cohesion (John O'Shea/Ben Melham) showed the best speed from the gate and the most determination at the finish to beat Capannello by a length-and-a-quarter in the slick time of 57.68 seconds for the 1,000m.
The win in one of the traditional lead-ups to Melbourne's feature juvenile race, the $1.5 million G1 Blue Diamond Stakes, was the sixth by a Godolphin two-year-old in Australia this season.
It also followed a winning double for Godolphin in Melbourne on Saturday that included the victory of Holler in the G2 Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley.
While there are no guarantees Cohesion, who was having only his second start, will continue toward the G1 Blue Diamond, he provides the stable with a worthy contender for the second tier events of the coming Sydney autumn carnival.
"He's a colt that's always shown ability which is why he started off back in October," said the stable's Melbourne foreman David Charles.
"We'll get over today's run and then decide on a program for him after that."
Winning jockey Ben Melham, however, had no doubt Cohesion is capable of stepping up to better races.
"I think he's up to Blue Diamond class for sure," Melham said.
"He's very professional and to show the speed he did at the start and to still be the strongest at the finish makes him a very useful colt."
The G1 Blue Diamond Stakes is run at Caulfield on 27th February.
