Desmond comeback victory for Tribal Beat

Tribal Beat won the mile G3 Invesco Pension Consultants Desmond Stakes in good style on his first start of the year at Leopardstown, Ireland, on Thursday evening, August 11.

The three-year-old Street Cry colt, ridden by Kevin Manning, chased the leaders in fifth initially before settling in sixth.

He was asked to progress with over three furlongs remaining and kept on well in the straight to go fourth approaching the distance.

Tribal Beat, trained by Jim Bolger, ran on strongly to lead well inside the final furlong and went away to win by a length and three quarters from the 2015 winner Cougar Mountain, with Breeders’ Cup victor Hit It A Bomb a neck further back in third.

The winning time was 1m 41.90s on good to firm ground.

Jim Bolger said: "Tribal Beat looked a good horse last year but since then he has just been held up by a number of small things - one after another.

"We have had a good run with him for the last six weeks and the problems seem all behind him.

"He is a really nice racehorse and gorgeous looking - hopefully stallion material.

"A mile or maybe nine furlongs is as far as he wants to go. I don’t view him as a mile and a quarter horse but I’ve been wrong before. He has to have good ground or better."
