Five for Godolphin and 200 Carnival wins for Saeed bin Suroor
"It is the result of a lot of teamwork and the support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed - this is special because Dubai is my hometown”
Saeed bin Suroor saddled his 200th Dubai World Cup Carnival winner when gaining a G2 double at Meydan, UAE, on Thursday, January 26 as Godolphin celebrated five successes on the night.
His 199th Carnival victory came through Promising Run in the G2 Al Rashidiya Empowered By IPIC Stakes and then the landmark moment happened with Very Special’s win, for a second year running, in the G2 Cape Verdi Empowered By CEPSA Stakes.
Saeed bin Suroor is by far the most successful handler in Carnival history and he has been champion trainer seven times since the Carnival started out in 2004.
He said: “It's great to bring up the 200th win at the Carnival.
“It is the result of a lot of teamwork and the support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, who is behind all our success.
“This is special because Dubai is my hometown.”
There were three other Godolphin winners at Meydan on Thursday, January 26, with trainer Charlie Appleby enjoying a treble through Gold Trail in the Aabar Properties Handicap, Fly At Dawn in the UAE 2000 Guineas Trial Empowered By NOVA and Baccarat in the Borealis Handicap.
Godolphin has had five winners on a Carnival card before, achieving the same feat on February 9, 2012.
