Frosted Out To Quell Upstart in Fountain Of Youth

Frosted meets Upstart for a second time in the Grade Two Besilu Stables Fountain Of Youth Stakes over an extended mile at Gulfstream Park, USA, on February 21.

Upstart beat Frosted five and a half lengths in the Grade Two Lambholm South Holy Bull Stakes over the same course and distance on January 24.

Frosted, who is trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, ended a highly progressive two-year-old campaign with a half-length second to Leave The Light On in the nine-furlong Grade Two Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct on November 29.

The three-year-old Tapit colt easily won a mile maiden at Aqueduct on October 29 and was runner-up over shorter trips on his first two starts, including when finishing three quarters of a length behind First Down at Belmont Park in September.

Kiaran McLaughlin said: "Frosted couldn't be doing better. He is training great and we feel that he is improving with every week and every race he has.

"He was drawn in post one in the Holy Bull, with Upstart in post eight, but we are next to each other this time in six and seven, so we should be able to work out a better trip this time.

"We put blinkers on Frosted because it really helped with his work. The only potential negative is that he may get a little too keen, although you really need to be up near the lead at Gulfstream Park.

"Upstart ran a monster race in the Holy Bull and I don't think that he can repeat that run. If he regresses a little from that and we improve a little, I think that we can be right there with him.

"We are just hoping for the best and that all goes well with our horse."

Frosted, with regular jockey Irad Ortiz Jr up, meets seven rivals headed by Upstart plus Gulfstream Park winners Itsaknockout and Gorgeous Bird, and Holy Bull Stakes third Bluegrass Singer.
