Dubawi filly Wuheida beat 10 more experienced rivals when successful in good style in the G1 Total Prix Marcel Boussac - Criterium des Pouliches over a mile on good ground at Chantilly, France, on Sunday, October 2.
The Godolphin two-year-old, winner of a six-runner Newmarket maiden over seven furlongs on her debut on August 6, just missed the break when drawn two, one off the inside, and William Buick moved her up through the field to go second on the outside behind the leader Dabyah.
Wuheida disputed the running briefly three furlongs out and was second in the straight before coming with a strong run to go to the front well inside the final furlong.
She won by three quarters of a length from G3 scorer Promise To Be in 1m 35.85s, with the previously unbeaten Dabyah a short-neck back in third.
Her trainer Charlie Appleby said: "It is great for Godolphin and great for the team for Wuheida to win this G1.
"She is a home-bred as well so it is great for the boss, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed.
"The team has done a great job and it was a fantastic ride by William. We knew that Frankie (Dettori) would go off on the front end and try to dictate it, so we were always going to be positive.
"She’s a filly we knew would appreciate stepping up from seven furlongs to a mile and she’s a filly with a bright future stepping up even further in distance next year.
"It was nice to see Wuheida go forth and do what we hoped she could do.
"I don’t think we’ll see her again this year. Going round the paddock before the race, for me she was one of the stand-outs. She now has a three-year-old career ahead of her.
"She’s a lovely, big, scopey filly and we’ve always had our eye on her as maybe being an Oaks filly. We will see what she does during the winter - she could get a bit bigger and a bit stronger.
"We are all trying to achieve G1 winners and we are getting there thanks to our team. Hawkbill made it a great summer and it is lovely to be here with another G1 success."
William Buick added: "Wuheida is a lovely filly and we thought a lot of her which is why she ran in this G1.
"She came into this race on the back of a maiden win and was a bit inexperienced. She missed the break a bit today and things could have got slightly difficult but we managed to get out and go forward.
"She won very well in the end and will only get better with time. Frankie’s filly (the third Dabyah) had won two out of two and the second had also won twice and ran in the G1 Moyglare last time. So it was a solid race and I thought Wuheida was well on top.
"She has stamina and speed - a nice turn of foot but I also think she will get a trip. She will definitely get a mile and a quarter and hopefully a mile and a half next year.
"It is important for Godolphin to win these races and fantastic when it happens."
