For two years Ghisoni has been a high-class filly out of luck.
But at Doomben on Saturday there is reason to believe she can turn around a long absence from the winners’ stall and collect her second victory in the G3 Glenlogan Park Stakes.
Since she last won the same race in 2016, Ghisoni (Glyn Schofield) has had to overcome a few issues, but she has never lost her ability or desire.
“She showed she was still capable of figuring in this class with an excellent run when she was third after having no cover in the Dark Jewel Classic at Scone two weeks ago,” said trainer James Cummings.
“The mare’s trained on solidly since then and most importantly she’s holding her condition nicely as she gets deeper into her preparation.
“I think she’s bounced back well enough to be competitive under the set weights and penalties conditions here.”
As a three-year-old Ghisoni was one of the most promising three-year-olds in training, setting a class record at Randwick when she won the G2 Surround Stakes before taking out the 2016 Glenlogan Park Stakes.
Cummings is also expecting a big improvement from Interlocuter who runs in the G3 Premier’s Cup at Doomben.
One of the most consistent horses in Godolphin’s Australian stable in his first two local preparations, Interlocuter (Tye Angland) has had trouble regaining his form this time in.
But Cummings says the signs are promising for a more positive outcome on Saturday.
“Despite having a hard run last time he’s continued to thrive and he steps up fractionally in distance which should suit him,” he said.
“We were certainly pleased with the strong piece of work he produced at Doomben on Tuesday morning.
“He’s winless this time in but there’s enough promise there for us to give him one more chance.”
Interlocuter is joined in the race by the Anthony Freedman-trained Nozomi (Jim Byrne) who is also looking for a return to the form that enabled him to win first up at Flemington in March.
