Global Weekly Preview: Hopes high for Frosted's sister on debut at Gulfstream
There is perhaps no burden so heavy in racing as the expectation for the sibling of a famous racehorse.

As a rule, they rarely equal their illustrious relatives, but the spotlight remains intense from the start of their careers, just the same.
The three-year-old filly Apiary, who makes her debut in a fillies' maiden at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, is in that category. The daughter of Bernadini is a half-sister to Godolphin 'warrior' Frosted (Tapit), who recently retired to stud after a brilliant racing career, in which he was responsible for some amazing performances, including a 14-length win in the Met Mile at Belmont Park.
Indulgent, another sibling, notched up a hat-trick of wins recently and heads next to a listed race. They are all out of the G2 winner Fast Cookie, who has proven herself an outstanding broodmare.
Jimmy Bell, president of Darley America, the stallion operation of Godolphin, explained that the Kiaran McLaughlin-trained Apiary had suffered an early injury setback. "She was unraced at two because of a chip fracture in her right knee," Bell said. "But she has been in steady work since November, and she is now ready for her first start," he pointed out.
McLaughlin reported that Apiary has done everything right at home but he is unsure of the strength of the opposition first time out. "It is hard to know what you are up against in this type of race at Gulfstream. Often it is the best of the best. "But I believe she will prove up to stakes class. She's a very nice filly, but she might need one run, just for experience," he said.
On the same card, Godolphin's progressive Cavil gets his chance to show his potential when lining up against early Kentucky Derby favourite Classic Empire in the G2 Holy Bull Stakes. "It's time to find out if Cavil is a contender or a pretender," McLaughlin said. "He had a troubled run last time he ran, and he is much better than that. It's a tough race, but Cavil has been very well at home and I'm not sure how well Classic Empire has been doing lately. We'll find out in the race," he said.
