Godolphin strength goes beyond G1 Golden Rose

A strong supporting contingent looks well-placed to continue the sparkling form of Godolphin’s Australian stable on a Rosehill program on Saturday, September 10 that includes the G1 Golden Rose and another three stakes races.

While the outstanding colts Astern and Impending are among the best chances in the feature event, the stable has good prospects throughout the day, beginning with Allergic (John O’Shea/James McDonald) in the G3 Kingston Town Stakes.

“With reasonable luck he’ll run well again in a race that looks ideal for him,” said managing director of Godolphin in Australia, Henry Plumptre.

Allergic scored impressively at the second run of his current preparation and then found trouble at a vital stage last time out.

“He looked unlucky last start, when he needed room another horse laid on him and he did a good job to finish fifth,” Plumptre said.

“Since that run two weeks ago he’s done well at home. He worked with Magic Hurricane on Wednesday and was probably shaded by him.

“Magic Hurricane’s a G1 winner so it’s not bad work.”

In the G2 Theo Marks Stakes, Vashka (John O’Shea/James McDonald) and Old North (John O’Shea/Brenton Avdulla) both look capable of figuring in the finish.

“Vashka worked strongly at Osborne Park on Wednesday morning, galloping on his own because he gets quite competitive if he has company,” Plumptre said.

“He cut out some very fast sectionals first up, he loves Rosehill and we think he can run a really nice race.”

Old North, winner of the G2 Tulloch Stakes at Rosehill in the Autumn, returns to racing after a winter break in Queensland and Plumptre also expects him to run well.

“He’s in great order and has been working well and did a nice piece of work at Warwick Farm on Tuesday,” he said.

“Like all our horses who went to Brisbane, he’s done very well and has returned looking quite forward in condition.”

The Rosehill stakes-race prospects are completed by the fillies Pearls (John O’Shea/James McDonald) and Alucinari (John O’Shea/Brenton Avdulla) in the G3 Sheraco Stakes, a race that either is capable of winning.

“Pearls has come through her first up run well and worked nicely at Warwick Farm on Tuesday,” Plumptre said.

“And Alucinari turned in some sparkling work at Osborne on Wednesday morning.

“She’s tough and genuine and we expect her to run really well.”
