He broke well from the outside draw under James Doyle and disputed the early running before racing a close third on the outside of the leading quartet.
The Saeed bin Suroor-trained four-year-old improved to lead with over two furlongs remaining, but could not kick away from the smooth-travelling Vercingetorix, who took the advantage with a furlong left and gained a comfortable two-length victory in 1m 49.12s on good turf.
True Story kept on well in second, with Mr Pommeroy two and a half lengths further back in third.
Saeed bin Suroor commented: "I was pleased with True Story, who ran well. He was beaten by a better horse on the day.
"He will now go for the Jebel Hatta (Group One) over the same course and distance on March 7."
