Inhibitions races away with G3 Triscay Stakes

Careful planning paid big dividends when consistent Godolphin mare Inhibitions secured her first Black-Type while winning the G3 Triscay Stakes over 1,200m at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 15 February.
Head trainer James Cummings had alternated the four-year-old by Zoustar between his Sydney and Melbourne stables in recent months before targeting the Triscay Stakes.
Inhibitions, well-rated by Kerrin McEvoy, raced in third spot early before joining the leaders at the 200m pole and sprinting clear to beat Clear Thinking by just over half a length.
Commemorative was a head away in third place as the winner stopped the clock on a fast 1 minute 8.57 seconds for 1,200m, a massive 1.5 seconds faster than G2 Expressway Stakes winner Magic Time one race earlier.
Inhibitions has now won five races and been placed on 11 occasions from 25 starts for prize-money earnings of $697,775.
“We thought about where we were going to take Inhibitions,” Cummings said.
“We had (stablemate) Commemorative flying, but we had looked at this race from a long way out with Inhibitions (so) it’s a plan well pulled off.”
Inhibitions was bred by Neil Werrett and offered by Kitchen Hills, Scone at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and purchased for $380,000.
“She’s now a Stakes winner, a valuable filly by Zoustar,” Cummings said.
“Andy Makiv (now managing director) picked her out and she’ll just go on to be part of our broodmare band in the future.
“It’s a good result for the farm.
“Both mares in the race are Stakes winners, but I’ve got a feeling there’s a little bit more ahead of both of them.”
McEvoy said Inhibitions had always travelled kindly and he was confident a long way from home.
“She had a nice trail, she’s been running well, she was fit,” he said.
“We were able to just make use of a nice draw and she was up and going with a nice light weight on her back.
“So it was a nice race for her to get some Black Type.
“Around the corner I thought, ‘they’ve run along in front and we were going to be running on strongly and it’s going to take a good one to beat me’.”
At Flemington, the Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Godolphin juvenile Tentyris (Street Boss) pressed his claims for a possible start in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield next week when he dead-heated in the Listed Talindert Stakes down the straight 1,100m course.
Having just his second start after finishing a respectable fifth in fast time at Sandown on debut, a more relaxed Tentyris raced with the leaders before jockey Mark Zahra hit the accelerator.
Despite racing a little greenly over the final 200m, Tentyris joined Shining Smile in the final bound with Brave Decision three lengths away in third place in 1 minute 6.49 seconds on a slightly rain-affected surface.
Sam Freedman said the home-bred Street Boss colt was still learning his craft and would be even better for the experience.
“To the horse’s credit, he’s turned it around,” Freedman said.
“He trialled very well going into his first run but got a bit lost, as colts can do on debut.
“He’s taken steps forward in becoming a really nice two-year-old, so it’s nice top see him really stand up.
“We’ve tried a few different things with him, he went over the hurdles a few times this week to get his mind on the job here at the races.”
Freedman wasn’t surprised by Tentyris’ performance and said he would discuss options before deciding on a Blue Diamond tilt.
“They are still learning and sometimes it’s just changing their routine when they get a big stale with the regular training methods,” he said
“Importantly today, whereas the other day he was hard work, today he was excellent.
“He went to sleep in the stalls, went down to the gates quietly, so he’s come a long way.
“We’ll have a chat with Andy (Makiv) and Jason (Walsh) and the team at Godolphin, let the dust settle and see how he pulls up.
“It’s a very different dynamic here down the straight than to go to a high-pressure 1,200m off one week.
“It’s a challenge, but I’ll have a chat with the team.”
