Jack Hobbs, Godolphin's leading middle-distance performer of 2015, makes his seasonal return in the G2 Jockey Club Stakes over a mile and a half at Newmarket, UK, on Saturday, April 30.
The four-year-old colt, trained by John Gosden, stormed to a five-length victory in the G1 150th Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh, Ireland, in June, 2015 and was an excellent second to the world''s best turf horse Golden Horn in another Classic, the G1 Investec Derby, at Epsom Downs earlier the same month.
He was the very easy winner a 12-furlong G3 contest on Polytrack in September and ended his three-year-old campaign with a good third to Fascinating Rock and G1 Breeders' Cup Turf scorer Found in the G1 QIPCO Champion Stakes over a mile and a quarter at Ascot in October.
Part of his preparation for the new season consisted of a racecourse gallop at Newmarket on Tuesday, April 12 when he impressed by quickening up well.
John Gosden commented: "Jack Hobbs is in top form and we are very happy with what he has done at home, although the run will bring him on."
The son of Halling, with usual rider William Buick in the saddle, takes on six opponents headed by Simple Verse, who won the G1 St Leger and the G1 QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes last year.
