Laburnum and Encryption make three-year-old debuts at Randwick

Consistent filly Laburnum is out to break a run of placings when she drops back in distance and returns to fillies’ company in the G2 Darley Silver Shadow Stakes at Randwick on Saturday, 18 August.

Laburnum (Glyn Schofield) last raced three weeks ago when second over 1,500m at Rosehill in an open two-year-old event.

Since then, trainer James Cummings has given her an easy time in preparation for a race he believes is within her capabilities.

“She’s freshened up nicely and is back to racing against fillies here,” Cummings said.

“It’s still a very deep race, but she’s in good order.”

Laburnum is a daughter of Denman whose stock are enjoying a strong run of success with 26 individual winners in the past six weeks.

She is joined on the undercard to the G1 Winx stakes by Encryption (Glyn Schofield) who runs in the G3 Up And Coming Stakes.

Consistent form in some of the strongest two-year-old races of last autumn backs Encryption’s claims.

The winner of the G3 Black Opal Stakes in Canberra, Encryption then ran respectably in the G1 Sires Produce Stakes and the G1 Champagne Stakes before a winter break.

“His form was consistent last time in and we’ve been pleased with his trials,” Cummings said.

“He’s had a good foundation and he’s forward enough to run a good race.”

Encryption, a son of Lonhro, is the first foal of the outstanding racemare Guelph, who was raced by Sheikh Mohammed and whose four G1 wins included the Sires Produce and Champagne Stakes.
