Moonlight Magic goes for the G3 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial, with Saafarr also lining up in the 10-furlong contest at Leopardstown, Ireland, on Sunday, May 8.

Both three-year-old colts are trained by Jim Bolger and Moonlight Magic makes his second start of the season after fading to fifth on heavy ground in the G3 P W McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes over the same course and distance on April 10.

The son of Cape Cross, ridden again by Kevin Manning, was unbeaten in two appearances as a two-year-old - winning a seven-furlong Cork maiden and the Listed Eyrefield Stakes over nine furlongs at Leopardstown last year.

Ronan Whelan takes the ride on possible pacemaker Saafarr, who has yet to win in four outings but ran well to finish second on his latest start in a mile maiden at Navan on April 17.

Jim Bolger said: "Moonlight Magic is very well and we are happy that he has bounced back into form again.

"We expect a very good run from him."

A field of eight for the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial also includes four trained by Aidan O'Brien - Beacon Rock, Idaho, Lieutenant General and Shogun - plus Leopardstown maiden scorer Tirmizi and British raider Ventura Storm.
