Mysterious Night acquitted himself well on his first start in over seven months as he went down by a length to Marbaan in the G2 Al Fahidi Fort at Meydan, UAE, on Friday, 24 January.

The Charlie Appleby-trained five-year-old, who was victorious in the same contest 12 months earlier, broke smartly under Mickael Barzalona and soon tracked the leading duo of Satu and Danyah.

Mysterious Night crept up the inside rail to hit the front two furlongs out and kicked on into a two-length advantage shortly after. Marbaan quickened strongly to take the lead entering the final half-furlong, with Mysterious Night sticking to his task to finish a length ahead of Make Me King in third.

Charlie Appleby said: “It was a good, solid race from Mysterious Night, who is entitled to come on for the run. We will have a look at the G3 Ras Al Khor back over this course and distance in March.”
