Naval Power, English Rose and Siskany shine at Meydan

Godolphin’s superb strike-rate on Meydan’s turf course this season continued last Friday, with Naval Power, English Rose and Siskany all enjoying Group-race victories at the Dubai Racing Carnival.

Naval Power had been absent since winning the Listed Jumeirah Classic last January but the four-year-old made an impressive return to action in the G2 Singspiel Stakes.

Successful in six of his seven starts, Naval Power may yet be supplemented for the G1 Dubai Turf and the son of Teofilo could be aimed at some significant international targets as the season progresses.

English Rose has only tasted defeat once in her career as well, going down by a neck to Silver Lady in the G2 Cape Verdi, and the Frankel homebred readily beat Sapphire Seas in the G2 Balanchine.

Godolphin’s last three winners of the race – Summer Romance, Creative Flair and With The Moonlight – all headed out to North America afterwards. English Rose could travel Stateside with April’s G1 Jenny Wiley Stakes, a race also on Silver Lady’s radar, a possible next step.

Siskany took his record at Meydan to four wins from five starts when landing the G3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy for a second successive year.

The six-year-old’s only course defeat came with a neck second to Broome in last year’s G2 Dubai Gold Cup and he will again attempt to capture the staying prize on Dubai World Cup Night.

Military Order may have disappointed in the Derby last June but Adayar’s full-brother posted a first G3 success in the winter equivalent at Southwell on Saturday, when he comfortably beat four-time G1 winner Lord North.

A good week on the all-weather also saw improving sprinter Cover Up notch a third straight win, while three-year-olds Silent Age and Notable Speech both maintained their unbeaten records.

Super Saturday may have seen both its thoroughbred G1 prizes moved to earlier in the calendar but the fixture still provides one of the highlights of the Dubai season.

G3 Dubai Millennium Stakes winner Warren Point is set to spearhead a three-strong challenge for the G2 Dubai City Of Gold, while Star Of Mystery will be hoping to continue a brilliant start to the year in the G3 Nad Al Sheba Sprint.

Legend Of Time will attempt to emulate Naval Power with victory in the Listed Jumeirah Classic, with Cinderella’s Dream holding strong claims in the Listed Jumeirah 1,000 Guineas, a race won by Mawj 12 months ago.
