Multiple Graded Stakes winner Ottoman Fleet produced another commendable effort in G1 company as he finished third in the Fourstardave Handicap at Saratoga, USA, on Sunday, 11 August.
The Charlie Appleby-trained five-year-old, who had placed on his two previous G1 appearances in the 2023 Manhattan Stakes and this year’s Jebel Hatta, raced one off the rail in fourth for Flavien Prat as Strong Quality led the six runners.
Ottoman Fleet ranged up around Major Dude to go third turning in and stuck to his task in the straight but had no chance of catching Carl Spackler, who sprinted clear after hitting the front entering the final furlong.
More Than Looks passed Ottoman Fleet half a furlong from home, with the Godolphin runner keeping on to deny Strong Quality in a photo finish for third.
Charlie Appleby said: “It was a good, solid run from Ottoman Fleet. The likelihood is that he will probably make his way back to Europe with a view to looking at something like the Bahrain Trophy.”
