Proxy came agonisingly close to doubling his G1 tally as he went down by a nose to Bright Future in the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Saratoga, USA, on Saturday, 2 September.

Last season’s G1 Clark Stakes victor was rousted leaving the stalls to grab third on the inside rail before Tyson relegated the Tapit entire to a close fourth heading into the first turn.

Proxy had to be pushed along by Joel Rosario to maintain his position turning in and the Michael Stidham trained five-year-old started to make headway after a gap presented itself entering the final quarter-mile.

Bright Future kicked into a clear lead with a furlong to race, but Proxy unleashed a potent late rally, with the line coming just in time for the leader. Tyson took third, two and a quarter lengths behind the front two.
