Royal Whip third for Moonlight Magic

Moonlight Magic ran well to finish third in the 10-furlong G3 Kilfrush Stud Royal Whip Stakes at the Curragh, Ireland, on Sunday, August 21.

The three-year-old Cape Cross colt, sixth previously in the G1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby on June 25, raced prominently from the start under Kevin Manning.

The Jim Bolger-trained runner was settled in third before being switched out in the straight.

Moonlight Magic dropped back to fourth but kept on to regain third in the closing stages behind the all-the-way winner Success Days who won in 2m 13.27s on yielding ground.

Jimmy Hyland, the Godolphin Representative in Ireland, commented: "We were very happy with Moonlight Magic’s performance.

"He got tired two furlongs out and took a blow before finishing well.

"His target, subject to discussions, could be the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown (G1, 10f, September 10)."
