Santin third in G2 Kentucky Turf Cup

Santin emerged from his first attempt at a mile and a half with credit as he finished third in the G2 Kentucky Turf Cup at Kentucky Downs, USA, on Saturday, 9 September.

Trained by Brendan Walsh, the dual G1 winner was prominent throughout under Florent Geroux and raced in a clear second as Get Smokin established a four-length lead over the field.

Santin halved Get Smokin’s advantage with three-quarters of a mile to race, before Verstappen moved up to join the Godolphin five-year-old at the top of the straight.

Get Smokin continued to enjoy himself in front and galloped out strongly to prevail by a length and three-quarters. Santin rallied but was passed for second near the line by Spooky Channel, with Red Knight flashing home for a close fourth ahead of Verstappen.
