Sentiero Italia takes on some of Europe's top performers in the US$2-millionG1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf over an extended nine furlongs on day two of the Breeders' Cup meeting at Keeneland, USA, on Saturday, October 31.

The three-year-old Medaglia d'Oro filly, representing Kiaran McLaughlin, finished well to gain third on her latest appearance in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup over half a furlong shorter at the same course on October 10.

She gained two decisive G2 wins over nine furlongs, scoring by three and three quarter lengths in the Sands Point Stakes at Belmont Park on September 12, and readily taking the Maker's Mark Lake Placid Stakes at Saratoga on August 14.

Kiaran McLaughlin reported: "Sentiero Italia drew well in stall two, which means that we can save some ground.

"We could be forwardly placed over this distance and we could sit second, third or fourth. I can't see a lot of speed in the race and she laid up in second before winning the Sands Point.

"Coming back three weeks after the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup is a negative, but we don't think that she will react from the short lay-off.

"She was caught very wide in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup and it wasn't a great set-up. Hopefully, we can have a better trip on this occasion.

"It's going to rain during the week and I expect the turf course to be good to soft by Saturday.

"It could be a plus for us because I think most of the Europeans came over expecting a firm track and the ground had some give in it when Sentiero Italia won the Sands Point."

Sentiero Italia, with regular jockey Joel Rosario on board, takes on 11 rivals with European Classic winners Legatissimo and Miss France set to provide the main opposition.
