Sentiero Italia aims for a second consecutive Grade Two victory over nine furlongs on turf in the Sands Point Stakes at Belmont Park, USA, on Saturday, September 12.
The three-year-old filly, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and ridden by Joel Rosario, quickened up well to beat Miss Temple City by a length and a quarter in the Maker's Mark Lake Placid Stakes at Saratoga on August 14.
She kept on to dead-heat for fourth of 14 alongside Strict Compliance in the 10-furlong Grade One Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes on turf at Belmont Park on July 4.
The daughter of Medaglia d'Oro gained two easy turf successes earlier in the year, scoring by two lengths in a mile allowance race at Belmont Park on May 28 and posting an all-the-way victory over a furlong further in an Aqueduct maiden on April 19.
She takes on 11 other three-year-old fillies including Miss Temple City and Grade Two Lake George Stakes winner Mrs McDougal plus European challengers Malabar, Osaila, Blond Me and Iromea.
Kiaran McLaughlin commented: "Sentiero Italia couldn't be doing better since her last race. It has rained at Belmont this week and I think that the turf will have a little bit of give in it on Saturday, which should be perfect.
"We are a little worse off at the weights with Miss Temple City, who is getting a 5lb pull, and there are a few European fillies coming over, which will make it interesting.
"Our filly is doing great and we like our chances, but it is a very competitive race."
