Ottoman Fleet emerged with plenty of credit on his G1 debut with a battling third in the Manhattan Stakes at Belmont Park, USA, on Saturday, 10 June.
The Charlie Appleby-trained four-year-old, successful in the G2 Fort Marcy Stakes at the same course in May, raced towards the rear of the 10 runners as Strong Quality attempted to stretch the field for the first half-mile.
Ottoman Fleet started to move through the field turning in, meeting traffic in the process, and stayed on to dispute third after being angled out William Buick at the top of the lane.
Up To The Mark collared Strong Quality over a furlong out and soon took control of the race, with Ottoman Fleet making late inroads alongside Soldier Rising.
Ottoman Fleet briefly went second in the closing strides but was edged out in the shadow of the post by a rallying Soldier Rising.
