Steady Pace steps up to six furlongs for the first time in the Group Two Arqana July Stakes at Newmarket on Thursday, July 9.

The two-year-old colt, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, has made three starts over five furlongs, most recently when coming home third in the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 16.

He was also third in the Listed Cantor Fitzgerald Debt Capital Markets National Stakes at Sandown Park on May 28 and made an impressive debut with a smooth victory in an Ascot maiden on May 9.

James Doyle, who partnered the son of Dark Angel on all three starts, has the mount again.

Saeed bin Suroor commented: "Steady Pace has been working well since Royal Ascot and I think that he has a chance of running a big race.

"The step up to six furlongs should suit him and I am looking forward to seeing how he gets on in a Group Two race."

Steady Pace takes on eight rivals including Coventry Stakes third Eltezam and Windsor Castle Stakes second Areen plus Newmarket maiden winners Experto Crede and Elronaq.

Godolphin has won the July Stakes with City On A Hill (1999) and Noverre (2000).
