The four-year-year-old Manduro gelding, trained by Saeed bin Suroor and ridden by James Doyle, was slightly slow to get going but soon raced in second before moving into the lead just after entering the straight.
James Doyle kicked his mount on and they quickly gained a clear advantage.
The jockey was able to ease down True Story close home, winning by three and a quarter lengths in 1m 48.79s on good ground.
Saeed bin Suroor, gaining his second victory of the night, commented: "True Story ran a big race and it was good to see him win like that.
"There are no definite plans at the moment but we will find another race for him.
"It is very good to start 2015 with two wins - I'm Back was suited by the surface and the distance."
James Doyle, celebrating his first success since becoming a retained jockey for Godolphin at the start of the year, said: "True Story was on his toes beforehand but gelding has been the making of him.
"It was good performance tonight - I was happy with that. He was well fancied for the Derby last year and probably did not quite stay.
"He ran some decent races at the top level. This was at a lower level but he has won nicely enough and there will be more to come."
