With The Moonlight filled the runner-up spot in a North American G1 for a second time this year when going down by just over two lengths to Fev Rover in the E P Taylor Stakes at Woodbine, Canada, on Sunday, 8 October.
The Charlie Appleby-trained four-year-old, who had found In Italian three lengths too strong in the Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland in April, broke well and tracked the leading trio of Rocky Sky, Fev Rover and Skims in a strung-out field.
With The Moonlight continued to race handily and was produced four-wide under William Buick at the top of the straight, with Moira also challenging down the centre of the field as five runners appeared to hold chances two furlongs out.
Fev Rover kicked into a clear lead shortly after, leaving With The Moonlight and Moira to battle it out for the minor honours. The Godolphin homebred stayed on to go a clear second inside the final furlong, seeing out the mile and a quarter trip well.
Charlie Appleby said: “With The Moonlight has run another solid race, although the ground was probably on the slow side for her. We have no immediate plans and will get her back to Newmarket before regrouping.”
