Alpen Rose filled the runner-up spot in Germany for a second time this season when going down by a short-head in a frantic finish to the G3 Hamburger Stutenmeile at Hamburg on Sunday, 4 July.

The four-year-old filly, second in the G2 Badener Meile on her previous outing for Henri-Alex Pantall at the end of May, was held up behind the leaders in fifth by Julien Guillochon.

She progressed to dispute third with three furlongs left and quickened down the centre of the course in the straight as several runners looked to hold chances approaching the final furlong.

Alpen Rose continued to stay on, challenging Reine d’Amour for the lead in the final strides, with Diadora also launching a late bid.

All three flashed past the post together, with Reine d’Amour getting the verdict in a photo-finish ahead of the Godolphin runner. Diadora took third, a nose further in arrears.

Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin said: “Alpen Rose produced another very game performance, especially as she was giving weight to all her rivals.

“She has been a remarkably consistent filly all year and has embellished her profile with some more Black Type. She is already a Listed winner, so anything else she can add this season is a real bonus.”
