Fencing races on dirt for the first time on his Godolphin debut in the mile Group Three Firebreak Stakes Sponsored By Land Rover at Meydan, UAE, on Thursday, February 12.

The Charlie Appleby-trained six-year-old has run exclusively on turf in the UK and was third on his most recent appearance in a Doncaster conditions race over seven furlongs on October 25.

A dual Listed winner over seven furlongs and a mile, Fencing finished sixth in the Group One QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in May, 2012, and came home third in Doncaster's Group One Racing Post Trophy the previous year.

William Buick, who has partnered the son of Street Cry on the majority of his starts, takes the ride again.

Charlie Appleby said: "Fencing has been working nicely on the dirt at home but this will be a slight learning curve.

"He has done everything that we have asked of him and we are looking forward to getting him on a racecourse to see where we are."

Fencing, drawn in stall five, opposes nine rivals including course and distance winner Tamarkuz, Grade One Metropolitan Handicap third Romansh and Irish Group Three scorer Darwin.

Godolphin has won Firebreak Stakes, which was run on Tapeta previously, with Skysurfers (2011), Sandagiyr (2012) and Moonwalk In Paris (2013).
