Flash Fire continued Charlie Appleby's fine start to the season in heritage handicaps as he gained a decisive win in the totescoop6 Victoria Cup over seven furlongs at Ascot, UK, on Saturday, May 7.

The four-year-old, always towards the head of affairs under Adam Kirby, ran on strongly to take a clear advantage approaching the furlong-pole before going on to prevail by three-quarters of a length over Mutawathea.

It was a second major UK handicap success for Moulton Paddocks this year following on from Secret Brief, who captured the Betway Lincoln at Doncaster on April 2.

Charlie Appleby said: "We were delighted with the victory of Flash Fire. Seven furlongs on fast ground is ideal for him but it was still a very good performance to win under a big weight.

"We might think about the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot now, although I am not sure that he will truly get the mile. We will get him back home and discuss it but he is not that far off Listed or even Group class now.

"Like Secret Brief, he started the year with some good efforts in Dubai and it is great to see them translating that form so well to the UK."

Adam Kirby added: "Flash Fire is a lovely horse and he is everyone's perfect ride.

"Everything went perfectly - he jumped smartly, there was a nice gallop on, he was breathing good and moving well. I let him get on with it and he stayed on well."
